Role: 2nd Line Technical Support Engineer - Temp-to-Perm
Location: Knutsford, Cheshire (5 days onsite)
Contract: Temp-to-perm - initial contract with view to permanent
Day Rate: £180 - £220/day (Inside IR35, via umbrella)
Perm equivalent on conversion: £29,000 + clear progression
Shifts: Rotating shift pattern - 06:00-14:30 / 14:00-22:30 / nights (9-5 for the first two weeks during onboarding)

The opportunity
* We're working with a growing technology business that's expanding its engineering function. They've already built a strong small team and are now bringing in three additional 2nd Line Technical Support Engineers on a temp-to-perm basis - a genuine route into a permanent role with real progression behind it.
* This isn't a phones-and-passwords desk. You'll be the escalation point from 1st line, owning complex technical tickets end-to-end, getting hands-on with hybrid cloud and on-prem infrastructure, and learning directly from senior engineers.
What you'll be doing
* Resolving Level 2 tickets, incidents and escalations within SLA
* Troubleshooting complex system, network and platform issues using logs, monitoring tools and your own diagnostic instincts
* Performing intermediate configurations, installations and updates across hybrid cloud and on-premises systems
* Producing root cause analysis on recurring issues and feeding improvements back into the team
* Supporting CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tooling under guidance from senior engineers
* Escalating only the most advanced cases to L3 - with full context captured
* Contributing to the knowledge base and post-incident reviews
What we're looking for
* 2+ years supporting enterprise IT infrastructure
* Strong working knowledge across Windows Server (2012-2019), Linux (RedHat), SQL Server, Active Directory and Networking
* Familiarity with Azure (or another major cloud) and containerisation (Docker / Kubernetes)
* Scripting in at least one of PowerShell, Python or Bash
* Experience working to SLAs/KPIs in a ticketed environment
Nice to have:
* Exposure to Terraform / Ansible
* Voice recording platforms, IP networks or storage tech
* ITIL Foundation, Microsoft Azure certs, or a CS/IS degree
